Top Secret Bigfoot Habituation Area Exposed: Invasion Of The Bigfoot Skeptics

Like shooting a game winning buzzer beater, or tossing up a Hail Mary for a touchdown win as the clock counts down to zero, the end of 2015 went out with a bang in the bigfoot community. For what seems like several years now, there has been an ongoing feud within the community between certain individuals and Dr. Matthew Johnson. The "certain individuals" namely being Steven Streufert, Jamie Wayne, and various other skeptics that frequent the facebook group known as the "Coalition". The full name being the Coalition for Critical Thinking in Bigfoot Research.

This group prides itself on taking a rational and skeptical approach to any and all bigfoot evidence and claims made in the bigfoot community. Sort of a self-imposed peer review. It's no wonder that a feud arose between the two factions. Johnson is known for making bold and extraordinary claims about his research area and findings. Things such as "cloaking" bigfoot, telepathic inter-species communication, bigfoot having the ability to phase through solid objects, even magic portals being used to travel back and forth between multiple dimensions are all common and regular claims made by Matthew Johnson. Claims that many people, myself included, find absolutely asinine. The Coalition, which is founded on scientific and rational thought, of course find it particularly insulting and damaging to a community that needs as much credibility as it can muster.

So, over time, certain individuals worked together and uncovered the location of Dr. Matthew Johnson's famous research area known as SOHA. The Southern Oregon Habituation Area.

The funny part about all of this is that the information they used to find SOHA was all supplied by Johnson himself over the years. He would make videos, post photos, give away certain clues here and there, and was even kind enough to provide an aerial map view of the location itself. It was really only a matter of searching landmarks on Google Earth at that point until they found a spot that matched. That's exactly how Mitchell Wilson eventually found the location. Dr. Johnson himself said it was close to Grants Pass, Oregon. Tends to narrow it down a bit, don't you think? After finding it on a map, Jamie Wayne and Steven Streufert then drove to the location to confirm it on the ground, and guess what? BINGO! SOHA location confirmed.

They posted a few photos of the two of them at the location, made some videos of the area, and did a quick investigation to see if they could find any preliminary explanations for some of the claims that had been made by individuals who had visited SOHA in the past. Then they went home.

Of course shortly there after they made a public announcement letting everyone know they had found the location, and posted their materials for the public to view. They could have kept the entire thing quiet. They could have set up elaborate hoaxes and made Johnson look like an absolute fool, but they didn't. In my opinion they took the high road in this situation, and to my astonishment, a lot of people in the bigfoot world are attacking them for it.

When I said 2015 went out with a bang, that's exactly what I mean. A war between factions has commenced. Now that the curtain has been pulled back, certain individuals are in a very foul mood. Their playtime has been disrupted. Even those who did not necessarily support Johnson are still siding against Jamie and Steven for invading SOHA.

See, researchers are very particular about their research areas. They don't want others coming into their territory. They're afraid that outsiders will mess things up for them. Yeah right, they are most likely afraid someone else might get a video or a photo in their area and get all the glory. But for whatever reason, it is an implied rule among researchers that you respect each other's space. That's where the problem began, there was never any respect in this situation to begin with. And I don't mean on the part of Jamie and Steven.

Matthew Johnson has never been respectful to anyone that questions his claims. I questioned something he said one time and the man booted me from his group (that he invited me to join personally) and blocked me from his facebook page. Likewise, he has never given or shown respect to any other researchers unless they make the same type claims he does. He has never shown anyone the respect of offering up any sort of evidence to support his claims. He has never shown the respect of letting someone who was skeptical come to his location and experience or view things for themselves. When challenged or questioned, he does not respond in a respectful manner.

Dr. Matthew Johnson is disrespectful to bigfoot research. Period.

The North American Wood Ape Conservancy has a secret research area. Do you see anyone trying to expose it? Why do you think that is? Because they are respectful. They offer evidence transparency.

The Olympic Project. They have a private research area. Once again, they offer up their findings. They are respectful. No one is trying to expose their location.

The list goes on and on. In fact just about every group or individual bigfooter out there has their own research area. Why are Jamie and Steven not going after everyone? If these guys are so evil, and the bane of the bigfoot community who are just out to expose secret research areas and supposedly harass and stalk innocent bigfoot researchers, why are they not going after everyone? Because they want what most true researchers want. The truth. Regardless of what the truth is. Not the fantasy, not the fictional, not the fairy tale. The truth.

Another item that I feel key to all of this is the location itself. I have had my research area invaded by other researchers before. It sucks. I do not think it is right to infringe on others research spots unless invited. If you really just have to go to someone else's area, and they aren't inviting you, at least do them the courtesy of letting them know you're going to go poking around in their spot before hand. Like the famous SOHA, many of these locations are on PUBLIC LAND. That's right anyone and everyone has the right to be there, and you can't do anything about it. SOHA included. That's why it's important to remember that even though an area might be public, it is also someone's research area, and you should be respectful of that.

BUT SOHA ISN'T A RESEARCH AREA!

Dr. Johnson doesn't do research. He goes and camps out, and makes up stories. He influences people who don't know any better. He takes photos and videos, and circles things that he says are there but invisible. He feeds junk food to wildlife and claims it can't possibly be wildlife taking the food. He takes small children there and his family, and makes it a family event. That's all fine and dandy, don't get me wrong, but that's called camping, not bigfoot research. At the very most it's nothing but an out of the way staging area for hoaxes. But I don't think the guy even puts that much effort into it to call it hoaxing. I think he just makes stuff up, and takes really gullible, naive, and inexperienced people out there. Anyone who might realize things for what they truly are never get invited.

That is why Jamie and Steven did what they did. That's why Jamie and Steven had every right to do it, and the community should be THANKING them instead of attacking them. How many people sit on their hands and say the bigfoot world needs better standards. Then when someone actually does something, and the reality of what it means sinks in, they get attacked for it. If you want to live in a world where bigfoot gets to be whatever anyone wants it to be and no one has to be held to any type of responsibility for the claims they make or the things they lead others to believe, go right ahead. But some of us, such as myself, have seen these creatures first hand and know they actually do exist, and we want to know what the hell they are, and understand what exactly we experienced. Regardless of what the truth actually may be. But we do want the truth.

  1. FABULOUS! Thanks, Matt, for the only sane and balanced article I've yet seen written on this matter. There is nothing wrong with exposing a hoax.

    1. The issue is Steven & Jamie admitting discussing a plot to hoax this location. Then implicating that half of the Olympic Project wanted to work with you two on this hoax. Lies, manipulation, discussion of a Bigfoot hoax. I wont ever buy a single thing Seven, Jamie or their Bluff Creek Project has to say or do. Your unethical approach along with lying, harassing & bullying those around you. Face it Steve. You are washed up. That's too bad. Was very entertain watching you clowns pretending to be scientists. No watch Steve have another sociopathic out burst because someone has the balls to tell him how it is. Real friends will tell you how it is. Good luck with rebuilding.

    2. Kelly Shaw tries to accuse Steven of lies by telling lies himself. There was never any attempt or plan by the finding group to hoax at SOHA. That fact has been well established. Shaw tries to put the focus on Steven to distract the attention from the actual hoaxer, Johnson. And by supporting Johnson, Shaw is supporting and endorsing the actual hoaxing.

    4. How can lies/hoaxing be ignored. For example. To blindly follow someone who says they can open and close a "Portal" with a flashlight. Yet have no video or decent pics of this. I would contact people/scientist's to see for themselves for example. Not worry about impressing a FB group.

    5. Way off base man. The Coalition stands for science?? Are you serious? You know as well as they do that they exist only to ridicule others. Doesn't matter whose site was exposed, Johnson or another researcher's. What they did was devious and unethical. You're trying to take the focus off their actions by calling out Johnson, and that's not the issue at hand. Sorry dude, right is right and wrong is wrong.

There was no hoax planned. Jamie misspoke. There was no hoax done. Period. This is a complete non-issue. The idea of tricking Matthew Johnson was considered among many other ideas in a discussion, and the idea was rejected. That is all there was to this big hullabaloo over nothing. However, like their "evidence" the arguments are invalid and imaginary. I hope when it all shakes out, Coalition can recover. As always, the other camp is always louder and attacking more than the scientifically minded Coalition and that in this case (i believe) is a good thing.

    7. Not true, again. The screen shot is of my post saying that Olympic Project was not involved. In fact, this wasn't Bluff Creek Project, either. It was in our "Finding SOHA" group, and the were many ideas brought forth for a review process. One idea someone had was to try to trick Johnson into telling a lie. This idea was firmly REJECTED. There was no plan to do a hoax, and no hoax was ever attempted. The truth is the exact opposite. We decided on nothing but objective observation. Those who are out there saying otherwise are either ignorant, or just lying for propaganda value. These liars are mostly Kelly Shaw, Michael Merchant, and Johnson himself with some of his cultist minions. The screen shot says "NO HOAX WAS PLANNED." How much more clear do those words have to be?

    8. So let me get this strait. Its unethical to hoax or lie, unless you are Steven Streufert? He justifies lies & hoaxes because he think someone else may be hoaxing. I think Steven lives in the same la la land portal Dr Johnson talks about. You two both live in a miserable make believe world where hoaxing, lying & manipulating people are OK. Telling you right now. Both of you are wrong Steven. I wont support anything you do or anything you are a part of. You have ruined what little credibility you had with me and my family.

Jamie messed up in what he said, and it has been misinterpreted. VERY CLEARLY: He was referring to the idea that was briefly discussed, that we could trick Johnson into telling a lie or some big story. This approach, considered among a hundred other things, was REJECTED. Hence, Jamie was wrong. Also, he was fudged the thing about the Olympic Project, when that group wasn't involved at all except for two guys in our group who are vaguely affiliated. In any case, you have no basis to accuse me, as I am not the one who said these mistaken things, and I am the one who most adamantly OPPOSED the idea of tricking Johnson with a fake track or whatever else. Anyone that has to use a whole paragraph of sentences to explain away their own hoax or lie is showing they have nothing left but manipulation. We are all adults here Steven. We aren't easily manipulated like your kids at home would be. Try having a few morals. And take an ethical approach in life. Is easier to remember the truth than covering up with a lie and another lie and oh wait. You cant even remember your 1st lie. Dis-appointing human being Steven. I am ashamed you are the same species as the rest of us & we have to share the planet with someone as deceitful as you. Some it all up, you are an unethical liar & can not be trusted. You cannot even say. You think just saying "liar" and "hoaxer" over and over again without any evidence or details makes it true? You are the liar.

What the hell did we do? We went to a place in the hills outside of Grants Pass, on public land, and looked around for a couple of hours. THAT'S ALL. Tell me, what lies and what deceit, and what hoaxing is involved in that? Meanwhile, Johnson is lying in everything he says, and hoaxing you all. Be mad at him. I'm just the one who showed what's really up there on that hill, and nothing more has been done. It's CLEAR AS DAY... you're just lying about me to protect Johnson. How hypocritical of you.

    4. Calling it as I see it. Hypocrisy has nothing to do with it. DrJ at SOHA is mental in his own way. You are a sociopath that justifies his own wrong doing yet crucifies anyone that would do the same shit you do. You are the real hypocrite here Steven. You need psychological help. I suggest you make an appointment with DrJ & let him check out your pee brain. Perhaps both of you can find that portal you are obsessed about. Really comical that you take SOHA so seriously. Why cant you sit back & laugh like the rest of us sane people? I have the answer for you Steven. Its because your sick in the head. You are a sick man & think you are doing everyone a favor, when we already know. Nothing at SOHA. Please concentrate on finding Bigfoot in stead of stalking mental patients. Your making your self look like a complete fool & are dragging others into the mud with you.

You should be thanking us for bringing some actual information from and objective scrutiny to this SOHA mess. There is nothing "wrong" with busing a hoaxer, or exposing an almost certain lie to the world. All of you people ranting and raving about this should really look at yourselves. Be truthful. 13. Great job, Matt! (Matthew Knapp that is.) You can tell that you and the "SOHA reveal" team did a good job when you have the likes of Kelly Shaw, Michael Merchant and their ilk crawling out of the woodwork to defend Johnson. Kelly Shaw and Michael Merchant are the worst with their childish chest-bumping and their usual incoherent rages. Kelly Shaw, the YouTube bigfoot "researcher' and his after-school kids club, RMSO. IMO, the guy has no concept of honesty or integrity. He's a fantasy role-player that likes to dress like Paul Revere. He should stick to his fantasy games and stay out of bigfooting. The only bigfoot research he appears to do is go through the BFRO database to find other people's experiences for his cheesy videos that he stutters through while prominently displaying his face. His only other claim to fame seems to be giving names to geographical areas like "Bigfoot Highway" and "Make Sh*t Up Mountain". For months now he has been running a campaign to apparently smear, with misinformation and inaccuracies, the "Bluff Creek Project" just out of spite and jealousy. I say jealousy because he has made nothing in the way of a positive contribution to bigfooting. Then we have the "Barefoot Primadonna" and "Nature Boy", Michael Merchant. Another YouTube "celebrity" who, lately, has been trying to convince everyone, that he can, of his paranormal abilities by performing cheap parlor tricks that any 8-year old can perform. I seriously think that this was just done to ingratiate himself with Johnson. IMHO, all his vitriol stems from the fact that SOHA is no longer the "Never Never Land for Adults Who Refuse To Grow Up". I firmly believe that, since Merchant has nothing going for himself, he wanted to latch on to Johnson's coattails and he is enraged that the opportunity is now gone. BTW, I liked the comment that the allegedly practicing Buddhist made about if someone found his research area they would be lucky if they "came out in one piece". I am still looking for a similar Buddha quote but I have yet to find one. Ah, you've got to love the hypocrisy. At any rate, the rage, threats of violence and furor that has come about by all this is ridiculous and really shows the dark side of bigfooting. Or maybe I should say "bigfootery". No "research" area was compromised because no conclusive proof was ever presented that would qualify it as a "research" area. Johnson has no concept of real "habituation despite the fact that he likes to compare himself to Jane Goodall. Sporadic camping trips to an area does not make one a "habituator". He hasn't a clue. Johnson will soon have another "SOHA" because "SOHA" is located in his own mind and can be placed where ever his fantasy and imagination take him. For all the charlatans and pseudo-researchers who are coming to Johnson's defense, I can somewhat understand their ire and concern. It kind of puts them on notice that people may no longer so easily be accepting of their shenanigans. They now will need to raise the bar on what they falsely call "research".

Do you think I care what a bunch of fanatics and liars think about this? They'll believe just about any insane lie one tells them. I only care about the truth, and that's what I'm expressing here, and it's what we've shown so far at SOHA. No lying or hoaxing is necessary for that.

  15. Kindness in a Sasquatches eye shine purer then any kindness that I have seen in a human being. This is what I will always remember about one of my trips to SOHA. You know how I know that Matt is telling the truth? I have had similar experiences of my own outside of SOHA. The two of us are not the only ones experiencing the respect of the Sasquatch. I have my own place that I can go to commune with them. It really is just as simple as having good intentions, respect, having an open heart and mind to learn more about them. The problem with learning though is that the more you learn the more questions there are. You will find this to be true if you choose to spend time at SOHA with the respect that is needed to gain trust. Matt spent 5 to 6 years there with little to no results. I would be very surprised if any of you who chose to spend valuable research time tracking down one location to debunk it has what it takes to get to the truth of what the Sasquatch are capable of. It does my heart good to know that there is more intelligent life on this planet then us as a people. We are bound to screw just about anything up and this is why The Sasquatch shy away from us. It's that simple. All this hoaxing non hoaxing will not change the fact that people like myself and others have a re pore with these other form of a people (yes this also includes Matthew Johnson) this will not change a thing. Life goes on. Get a life that will yield results of your own. The thing about SOHA is personally I have always found it a bit eerie with the lack of wildlife there.

  16. If it were Rick Dyer's secret research area would there be an uproar? Nope. In fact Johnson would be first in line to praise those who discovered it.

  17. Since Jamie is offline taking a break from all of this nastiness, I'll post what he last said about all of this on the Coalition group here. The end parts are a few added comments from below the main post he made and another one regarding the Olympic Project issue.

"Jamie Wayne, January 2 at 7:20pm:
Again I would like to sincerely apologize to Derek and the Olympic Project members. I feel absolutely terrible for dragging their name into the conversation. We were just trying to do the right thing by going up to SOHA and checking it out. Nobody hoaxed anybody. Please refrain from typing in all caps or using too many exclamation points... You guys have been the best group ever and I think now more than ever we need to reinforce our core ideals. That no group is above peer review and criticism. Critical thinking is at the core of our understanding of what is real and what is not. We must continue to be critical of people claims, and call bullshit when we see it. I am not above this requirement which is why i have apologized.... You don't think I feel terrible about this? I was just trying to convince Stacy that we had good intentions. ...he just messaged me, i was talking to him, no big deal... then he posted our conversation on merchants page... this is just those guys trying to demonize us. ...again I did absolutely nothing wrong. You are committing far worse crimes treating people like garbage. ...I had ten windows open yesterday with people yelling at me for nothing. I used OP instead of using the names of people who knew about the project. I was just trying to convince him to lay off inflaming merchant... I have already apologized to everyone many times. I'm the one who told everyone that I didn't want to mess with johnson.... We did nothing there... We had a private group where we had many discussions over several weeks. tens of people were in that group. The only reason i went to SOHA is because it's by my house. ...Johnson is just freaking everyone out and demonizing us. They are grasping at any straw they can get..."

"Jamie Wayne, January 2 at 10:32am:
Hey about Stacy, the OP had nothing to do with the SOHA stuff I was just using it as a blanket term for the washington people who knew about us going up there. The OP has tons of members and contributors. Of course we wanted to stick it to johnson. We threw around a bunch of ideas of what to do with the site, install trail cams, leave signs, fire shotguns... In the end we thought it best that we just drive up there and check it out and leave nothing behind... The Johnson camp reaction is only natural. When you call out someones bullshit they will prance and scoff and grab at your ankles. We are ten feet tall and don't care about their feelings. Feelings have no bearing on reality. We only care about whats real or not. What we have proven is that Johnson has hoaxed and fabricated his experiences there. He's the real hoaxer...
Merchant and Stacy didnt have the whole story and were just reacting to the news that we had crashed SOHA. It's only natural for them to be angry. I'm sure that after a bit of clarification they would come around. Merchant might be leaning toward woo but he's not an idiot, and Stacy isn't bad either he just likes to stir shit. I think merchant was just impressed and taken with johnsons hoaxing which is why he got taken in by it.
I'm sure once the wounds heal and the dust settles the community will be much better off.
To all the people freaking out about this, this only ranks about a 2.5 on the bigfoot news scale. I'm just glad we can put johnsons portal demon, disease curing, stumpquatching behind us. Rene Dahinden got a lot of shit too for calling out Grover Krantz and Paul Freeman on their bullshit in Walla Walla."

  21. It is funny how Michael the fake Merchant, Stacy the I blew it Brown and Kelly the hoaxer Shaw are accusing not only the Olympic Project of planning to hoax Matthew Johnson, but accusing the Coalition and Bluff Creek Project as well. This started when Jamie Wayne started talking smack with the hobo bum known as Stacy Brown and Jamie said something that had no truth to it at all and Stacy desperate for acceptance in the SOHA team, so he can bust them himself and become a hero, past on the message from Jamie to Johnson. Yes Stacy Brown, we have your comments copied and ready to share! Michael Merchant and his miss K, not wanting to be left on the side of the road again and forgotten, jumped on the SOHA ship in hopes to get some time in the spotlight. Kelly Shaw, well there are no words for this attention whore who has yet to provide anything bigfoot related. What do these three have in common, they have all be busted for lying, hoaxing and for changing what is said and turning it into something it totally different in meaning. Not only have they been busted in the Coalition, but in several other groups as well. To be honest, not one of them can be trusted by anyone and they are all driven by personal agendas. Has Johnson ever wondered why Michael has some of his Youtube videos made private, well he should, because they will show how Michael wants to bring down Johnson. Everyone needs to open their eyes to what these three are up to, even Johnson needs to be aware.

  22. I never knew there were so many cry-babies in bigfooting...

You had one attention seeking, loud-mouthed, self-admitted asshole, taunting people and daring them to find soha - well, a small group of folks got together and did just that.
Two guys went up there -
No vandalism, no hoaxing, no trickery, no environmental scarring, no trash left behind, no scaring of the local wildlife or pot farmers - just two people looking around for a fraction of an afternoon.

Oh the humanityyyyY!!!... No.... god, say it isn't so!... What is the human race coming to?...

What we have here in many of the comments, are sniveling cowards with agendas and previously acquired 'axes to grind', hiding behind the Anonymous tag, trying to pile on someone they do not like.
I surely hope that they continue to lurk in their basements and stay out of the woods. I don't want to encounter blubbering fools moaning about their ruined dresses every time I go out in the field.

Soha isn't a mining claim or a sacred site, it's public land that I'm sure gets walked upon or visited by hunters and hikers and pot growers, regularly.
It isn't even remote, or difficult to get to.

Stop with the pathetic caterwauling and disingenuous outrage.

  23. I really don't care, eventually Johnsons ship will sink, hoaxers always do. It's like all those people who were speaking up for Sasquatch Ontario, it all comes to a end.

  24. PART 1
Well, it has been a few days now since the location discovery of SOHA was announced. The alleged compromising of the “bigfoot research area” that was, in fact, not a bigfoot research area at all. The exposing of SOHA as nothing more than the camping site and playground of Matt Johnson.
Needless to say, commentary on the event has been interesting if not more than a little disturbing. It hasn't exactly been the finest hour for Facebook/internet bigfooting. As to be expected , the unsavory “bigfootery” faction has voiced the strongest reaction thus far. First to come to the defense of their charlatan brother was the dynamic duo of “Dumb & Dumber” or the pair more commonly known as Merchant and Shaw. This was understandable since any reveal of SOHA/Johnson could lead to peripheral damage that might lead to closer scrutiny of some of their claims and activities. Even Stacy “Gator Leg” Brown took time out from writing his songs, degrading women, to attempt to stir up the pot.
Then we heard from the emotionally needy, attention-seeking bigfooting trolls/groupies, Roy Gilliam and Joe Wilson. This was to be expected since these two remoras attach themselves to every bit of bigfooting controversy and controversial figure out there just to bring attention to themselves. Wilson showcased his obsessive disorder by posting screen captures from his extensive trolling library. I really have to wonder if these guys have a life outside of their 24/7 internet trolling obsession. Also, we saw the debut of Johnson follower and rookie troll, Brent Dill. Dill really has to work on his game because his premier performance was both pathetic and embarrassing.(Continued to Part 2)

  25. Part 2
But by far, the most disgusting and disturbing posts originated from Johnson's small rag tag group of mindless hardcore devotees. One of the highlights(?) were comments made by one of the members by the name of Bartholomew who was promoting “involuntary castration” for those who found the magic kingdom of SOHA. Then we had the hate-laced comments from a woman named Phelps. She is a real piece of work with her unqualified mental health diagnoses of others. What made all this more interesting was the total lack of intervention by Johnson or his group administrators to stop the disturbing comments even when they reached the level of advocating for physical violence. Now remember folks, Johnson is the Christ-like, turn-the-other-cheek leader of this group that, less than a week ago, was preaching “forgiveness”. Also keep in mind that Johnson's group has this in their group rules: “10. This is a 'Family Friendly' group. Therefore, please be mindful of your postings (i.e., No attacking, no profanity, no porn, etc.). Did I mention, 'Have lots of fun'???” I guess “no attacking” was just a typo and “involuntary castration” and other acts of physical violence must be just the group's idea of family “fun”.
I guess this is all to be expected from a leader like Johnson who, unfortunately, appears to be the moral compass for the group. Speaking of “morality” - Has everyone seen that Johnson is again using his young son as an unwitting participant in his lunacy? This latest image and post was right up there with the video that he did with his son showing them traveling in the car while Johnson is giving him a lesson on how to hate others. Is this how caring and responsible parents act? Remember, Johnson is supposed to be a child psychologist. He may be a psychologist but he is a psychologist who, IMHO, needs to do a thorough refresher on the “The American Psychological Association's (APA) Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct”. Johnson needs to pay particular attention to “Principles A-C” that deal with “responsibility” and “integrity”. This latest despicable tactic, involving his own child” leaves me asking the question - “What motivates Johnson to advertise to the world that he is a failure as a human being? By his own admission he failed to make it as a pro basketball player. He has made statements that he was going to be as good or better than “Dr. Phil”. It doesn't appear that he exactly has a flourishing practice when he has so much time on his hands to go camping and to play and commune with his imaginary forest friends. Finally, it's pretty obvious that he has failed at being a “bigfoot researcher”. Why add being a poor parent to this list of failures by using one's own child in his emotion-evoking propaganda posts? (Continued to Part 3)

  26. Part 3
For me, the finding of SOHA pales to what has been more importantly revealed by the backlash following the event. Through the disturbing and sometimes deranged comments of the Johnson devotees, we have been able to get a glimpse of the mindset and ideology behind the group. Their promoting of physical violence (i.e., “involuntary castration”, etc.) and their “us versus them” mentality is very reminiscent of the cult-like groups out there today and in the past. Of course, not all the members made these negative comments but the fact that others did not speak up against them, makes them just as much complicit. It's interesting to read the biographies of some of the cult leaders like Jim Jones, David Karesh and Marshall Applewhite. These were men who were failures most of their lives. Their only claim to fame (or infamy) was that that they managed to scrape together a group of followers who stroked their egos and followed them blindly.
In closing, I'm beginning to entertain the idea that Matt Johnson might be the “bigfoot magnet” that he claims. Maybe the “Forest Folk” have found an affinity with him. Maybe they are rejoicing over the fact that they have found someone of lesser intelligence that they can manipulate and groom just like Johnson has done with his group of devotees.
